Start the New Year Catching Something “Contagious”

Contagious: December 30, 2008

"Contagious": December 30, 2008

It’s time, my friends, for you to visit a bookstore. Remember those things with all the books (and music and movies and coffee, more often than not) that you walk past on the way to Bed Bath & Beyond or Linens and Things? Before they fade from memory and a mall near you forever, pay one last visit on Tuesday, December 30, 2008.

When you’re there on December 30, 2008, right near the front of the store… maybe on the front tables, maybe on the “new releases” display… you’ll see Scott Sigler’s latest, “Contagious.” You will purchase it, yea, even though it may mean you do not purchase that book by that triangle-shaped Olympic swimmer. You want triangles? “Contagious” has triangles. O yes.

Listen, I know that about a third of you reading this know who Scott Sigler is, and why I’m asking you to get out there and buy “Contagious” when it hits bookstores on December 30, 2008. You know Scott and I are buddies: fellow podcasters, fellow travelers in the social media world, fellow new media veterans. Chance are at least 30% of you have already listened to Scott’s awesome, scientiscary horror thrillers as free podcasts, and a good many of you probably own Scott Sigler’s previous book, “Infected.”

For the rest of you: “Contagious” is a science-based horror thrill-ride that is visceral, personal, and scary as all get out. Think about the best book Michael Crichton could write if Crichton had the rich, immersive characterization chops of Stephen King. That’s a Scott Sigler book, and I’m betting “Contagious” will be his best yet.

What’s it about? “Contagious” follows a secret team across the United States as they track a pathogen that turns its victims into raging homicidal psychopaths. When the infected turn contagious and the pathogen reveals signs of being directed by a malevolent intelligence, a mission of containment becomes a race against the clock to save humanity.

What makes “Contagious” unique — and of interest to many folks who read this blog — is that Scott is marketing the book not only with a five-city book tour but also with a cross-media blitz never before seen in mainstream publishing. Right now, you can subscribe to the free podcast edition of “Contagious” — and read along with the podcast with a free serialized .pdf of every chapter. In addition, several of the top bloggers and media sites have partnered with Scott to feature high-quality, printable posters based on the events in “Contagious.” Once you have them all, print ‘em out — if you arrange them in the proper order, a secret composite image is revealed to blow your mind!

Like me, Scott has been blazing the new media trail since 2004. His first podcast novel, “Earthcore,” was one of the books I listened to as research before I planned the podcast edition of my own first book, “Brave Men Run — A Novel of the Sovereign Era.” I’m pleased as punch to support his efforts as he continues to bring old publishing into the new world.

You can help make “Contagious” — and social media marketing — a paradigm-busting success! Get out there on Tuesday, December 30, 2008 and buy “Contagious.”
