Black Cyber Discount On My Chapbooks and Ebooks!

Hey there, crazed holiday shopper! In the spirit of Black Friday / Cyber Monday… and covering the two days between, and the one before, too… I’m pleased to announce a 20% discount on selected Matthew Wayne Selznick chapbooks and e-books for a limited time!

Now through Monday, November 30, 2009, I will take 20% off your total order when you buy any of my signed, numbered, handmade limited edition chapbooks, or the e-book editions of my short stories or novel! I recommend getting the e-books for yourself, since even I’ll admit that the gift of an e-book might seem a little… insubstantial, no matter how much the thought is supposed to count.

The chapbooks, on the other hand, are bona-fide collector’s items and make great gifts. Each one is hand-made to order, limited to 100 copies, and signed and numbered by me. Supplies are limited!

What’s On Sale?

Reggie Vs. Kaiju Storm Chimera Wolf

In this short story, it takes a giant monster attack to bring Reggie Samson back to his old hometown… and the girl he left, but never let go. What connects all three?

The chapbook edition is limited to just 100 signed and numbered copies and includes an essay written specifically for this edition, “Beach Cities and Giant Monsters: The Path to Reggie,” not found in the e-book versions.

Cloak

In the short story “Cloak,” Harry Turpin does his best to lead a life of mediocrity after a family tragedy. When his girlfriend dumps him for a snide would-be magician, Harry’s life begins to take a very strange turn. As the mysteries about his family mount, Harry has to do something to shrug off the emotional cloak he’s been living under. The fate of his ex-girlfriend… and maybe a lot more… hangs on his actions.

The chapbook edition is limited to just 100 signed and numbered copies and includes an essay written specifically for this edition, “Blue Collar Creepy and a Collaboration of Influences,” not found in the e-book versions.

The World Revolves Around You

Tony Fallow has a problem in this short story. He’s too attractive… to inanimate objects! Everything around him that’s not bolted down wants to be near him. He suspects he may be one of the Sovereign, the meta-human minority making news all over the world, and he’s none too happy about it. What he learns when he visits a very specialized doctor doesn’t make him any happier…

The chapbook edition is limited to just 100 signed and numbered copies and includes an essay written specifically for this edition, “The Gotcha Tradition,” not found in the e-book versions.

Brave Men Run – A Novel of the Sovereign Era

Born different, unsure of his origins, Nate Charters is an outcast at Abbeque Valley High School, a self-proclaimed “boy freak” with few friends and low self-esteem. When the Sovereign Era dramatically dawns, Nate finds himself in a quest to discover the truth: is he more than he seems, a misfit in a miraculous and powerful new minority… or something else entirely?

Other Versions At Amazon.com

Amazon.com carries the paperback and Kindle versions of “Brave Men Run — A Novel of the Sovereign Era.” As of this writing, the paperback, normally $13.95, is 10% off at $12.55… and if you’re not too picky in your gift giving and don’t mind if I don’t make a dime(!), there are used copies for around five bucks! The Kindle version of “Brave Men Run – A Novel of the Sovereign Era” is $5.00.

Amazon.com also has Kindle editions of “Reggie Vs. Kaiju Storm Chimera Wolf,” “Cloak,” and “The World Revolves Around You” — those are $.99 each!

You can see everything I have available at Amazon.com on my author page — and when you use that link to shop at Amazon.com (you were planning on doing that this weekend anyway, right?) I’ll earn a little commission, so knock yourself out, with my thanks!

Happy Black Cyber Weekend!

Thanks for your patronage! Stay safe!

Interviewed By Chris Bowsman

Chris Bowsman was kind enough to include me in a series of e-mail interviews he’s been posting on his website. I liked answering these questions — it’s not the usual run of podcasting / writing stuff. In the interview, I reveal a piece of my past I’m not sure I’ve ever talked about in public, even obliquely as I do there.

Please check out Chris Bowsman’s interview with me, and be sure to give Chris some comment love while you’re there!

Hazy Days and Cloudy Nights Hiatus

Hey gang — just a quick note to the folks reading “Hazy Days and Cloudy Nights,” my ongoing serial fiction project.

I’m putting the future episodes on hiatus until January 4, 2010. This will give me the chance to:

  1. Finish the preparation for, and publish, “The Sovereign Era: Year One”
  2. Get two or three installments of “Hazy Days and Cloudy Nights” written ahead of time (maybe more?)

Finishing and publishing “The Sovereign Era: Year One” is the main reason. I have two creative obligations this autumn: the first was to prepare and package “Anyman: The John Smith E.P.” for sale and distribution through CD Baby.com. That’s all set — the album should be available for purchase as a CD or as MP3s pretty much everywhere at the beginning of December.

The second is “The Sovereign Era: Year One.” I have a few more edits to run through, and page layout to figure out, and then getting a proof back, etc. I’m committed to having all of that done before the end of Autumn, which gives me about a month.

So “Hazy Days and Cloudy Nights” is going to take a back seat for the moment. We’ll have to wait to see just what it was that Crystal saw when she opened that door… but who doesn’t love a good cliffhanger?

It’s Time For An Extended Visit To Elsewhere.

The Shaper's World Is it possible to feel a sense of yearning for a world that doesn’t exist anywhere but in your own imagination? Does it make sense that I get a feeling… a pulling in my chest… when I see the coastlines of its central continent? Am I crazy to feel like I’ve been away too long from a place to which I can never actually travel?

Well, you can call me crazy. Just don’t call me late for dinner. (Cue cymbals.)

That world, there, goes by a few names. The magn call it the Shaper’s World, except for those magn who don’t believe in the Shaper. For them, it’s just the world, or Gundifai, which is a compound word derived from what the gundynal and faien call the planet. There’s an older name for the planet, too… but the race that spoke that name is all but extinct, and little more than legend these days. Their name for the world is as little known as they are.

I love this place. I used to stay there for months at a time. I’m going to be spending more time there, soon.

I’ll be inviting you to join me.

Keep a bag ready.

Sonitotum Bonus: I Am John Smith

Anyman by John Smith Album Cover Today, in the third episode of J.C. Hutchins’ Beta Clone Army Update podcast (where he talks about promotion and progress of his “7th Son” series of novels, including “7th Son: Descent”), I was outed. I am John Smith, the journeyman folk-rock singer who, it just so happens, is also one of seven human clones.

Almost a year ago, author J.C. Hutchins came to me with the idea to create a mini-album of songs presented with the conceit that they were written, performed and recorded by John Smith, a fictional character from “7th Son: Descent.” The songs would by used to promote the October 2009 paperback release of “7th Son: Descent.”

Now, you can hear the whole story through a conversation between J.C. Hutchins and myself on his latest Beta Clone Army podcast. The interview begins at the 35 minute mark!
