As someone who makes a portion of his living releasing creative endeavors on the Internet, I’ve been interacting with fans, clients, colleagues, entrepreneurs and “cewebrities” online and off since 1998. In that time, the “real world” and Web have converged until we’ve developed a society where there’s no reason to treat one any different from the other.
Therefore, the Matthew Wayne Selznick you encounter on this site, in e-mail, on a social network or in an instant message is the same person you’ll encounter should we have the good fortune to meet in person.
As a head start in getting to know me personally or professionally, here are some of my guiding principles, ethics and standards, as well as some of the causes I support.
Be Human
“Be human” is my shorthand for treating each other with respect and as equals. Learn more about what it means to me to be human, and what I expect from you in that regard, too.
The DIY Ethic
There are as many definitions of the Do It Yourself ethic as their are practitioners. Read more about my take on the DIY ethic and how it shapes everything I do.
I Support…
Here are some of the causes, principles and concepts I believe in when it comes to creativity, intellectual property and living a life online.
- International network neutrality
- Open access, open source, open media and the Creative Commons
- Responsible, fair, reasonable and limited copyright and patent law
- Neo-Patronage, the merit-based economy and disintermediation
- Abolishment of digital rights management schemes, or alternatives to same
- Transparency
- Literal “peer-to-peer” relationships — no celebrity or undeserved respect
