Matt Selznick At The Podcast & Portable Media Expo 2006

From Thursday, September 28th through Sunday, October 1st, Matt Selznick will be in Ontario, California for the second annual Podcast & Portable Media Expo at the Ontario Convention Center. The exhibition hall, keynote addresses, and many after-hours events are free to registrants, so if you’re in Southern California and have an interest in new media, please consider attending!

Matt will be acting as a shameless walking billboard for things he believes in… look for the guy in the “Brave Men Run,” Podcast Guild, or IODA tee-shirt! Matt will also have paperback copies of the popular podcast novel “Brave Men Run - A Novel of the Sovereign Era” available for purchase.

He’ll blog on the event at Scribtotum both during and after the weekend is over.

What’s It All About?

I was working at a world-famous independent bookstore in Laguna Beach, California. I was chatting with a local musician — either his first or last name was Wolf, but I can’t recall which — and he suggested I write a song about how I thought the coming year was going to turn out.

“At This Moment” is that song… not quite what Wolf was looking for, but it still turned into a staple of my solo acoustic shows. It’s a quiet meditation on hope, self-awareness, and relativism, written less than a month into a brand new relationship. I think the optimism shows.

The version presented here was recorded at a large independent coffeehouse in Long Beach, California.

Lyrics:

“At This Moment” by Matthew Wayne Selznick
I’d be a fool to think
The lessons I have learned would last for life
I know more than that
The ones of value
Teach me through time

I have learned the truth
And then I went and learned it again
Like a sunset’s colors
Depend on how
You look at them and when

And the words that I have said before
I will say again
I will mean them
And the bricks I’ve raised to seal the door
I’ll tear down again
I will use them
To lay down a hearth

I think finally I feel the age
My body claims to be
No more or less than that
For deep within I’ve
Caught a glimpse of me

And while the total picture
Can only be seen
From the final view
At this moment I can find some peace
Knowing that I grew
