Sonitotum Bonus: For the Sake of the Song
This interview with Sean McGaughey on his For the Sake of the Song podcast is pretty different from my normal spiel… this time, I talk a bit about my songwriting in addition to my writing and “Brave Men Run.”
I hope you’ll enjoy some insight into the other major creative endeavor of my life… and by all means, subscribe to For the Sake of the Song for more eclectic inspections of singer-songwriters!
A Peek At Pilgrimage
This is Yvonne Blake, as visualized with the help of a composite illustration program called FACES. Yvonne is a minor character with a big impact on several other characters in the follow-up novel to “Brave Men Run,” “Pilgrimage.”
I was just getting ready to write the piece of the book that includes her, and I needed to know her a little better. I created this image, which helped. Her hair is darker, longer, and more straight in my mind, but my version of the software has limited templates. Figure she’s wearing black jeans, a tee-shirt, and a plain denim jacket.
In any event, I thought I would share her with you!

Mahalo Designer Wanted
Hey folks — my day job, Mahalo.com, is seeking a full-time, in-house web and graphic designer to help define the look and feel of many of the upcoming enhancements to the site.
Mahalo.com, you may know, is a human-powered social search service. This is not a bootstrapped start-up — we’re backed by Sequoia Capital, Newscorp, CBS, Mark Cuban, and one of the founders of PayPal. We’re based in Santa Monica.
To be an appropriate applicant, you must understand Web 2.0 — Facebook, Twitter, etc. You get user interface design for the web. You have an understanding of innovations coming out of markets other than the United States. Naturally, you need to be an amazing artist who can blow us away with clean, lightweight, innovative designs. Check this out for an idea of the aesthetic we’re shooting for.
Move quickly on this. Send a resume and porfolio to Mahalo’s CTO Mark Jeffrey ASAP, and tell ‘em Matt sent you.
Sonitotum Bonus: Interview with PodioMedia Chat!
Can you tell I’ve been doing a lot of talky-talk about the Sunday, July 13, 2008 release of “Brave Men Run - A Novel of the Sovereign Era” from Swarm Press, and the accompanying rush on Amazon.com and live, streaming video web-a-thon on that day?
The latest interview is on Chris Moody’s PodioMedia Chat, a podcast dedicated to authors who have podcast their novels. Give it a listen, and subscribe to the podcast for more interviews!
Yes, I know the Sonitotum feed has been heavy with other people’s podcasts… and I know I’ve been pushing hard on the upcoming release of “Brave Men Run.” I hope you’re enjoying these interviews, and I try to have a little something new in each one.
I’ll have a new regular, numbered episode of Sonitotum very, very soon!
