What’s It All About?
This song is about learning that love is possible again, after being disappointed both by love and by myself. I pinned a lot of hopes on the woman I wrote this song for, and that fierce optimism is evident.
The first version presented here is with Running Erin, recorded live at a bar in Redondo Beach, California. I have trouble remembering the words…!
The second version is solo acoustic, recorded live direct to hard drive with no overdubs or effects.
Lyrics:
I wear your lipstick on my sleeve
Like a blessing I just can’t believe
All the years of crying finally done
And I am stepping out of grief
Throw away what I don’t need
But don’t forget to learn from what’s been done
I’ll be standing by
Breathing with my heart
My favorite medicine to take
The bitter pill my heart remade
All my self-deception overcome
And you’re a truth I had to face
A memory I can’t erase
Now everything I know’s unmade in love
I am falling now
And I hope you’ll come with me
Never reach the ground
Finest day I’ve ever seen
Ride the wind and breathe the sea
If you will take my hand and only be
