I downloaded the Google toolbar for Firefox yesterday and only noticed the PageRank button today, so I clicked while on the official homepage of Matt, clicked the backwards links and came up with the following google list of pages that link to his official homepage

I think that we can add more by creating our own links to the his main page, so on your blog or homepage add a link to the page and improve the ranks on google. If you feel so inclined, why not blog or podcast about Matt's work? Write a nice review about the book or interview him. The more links the better. Let's spread the word!

Keiko, what can I say… those are very excellent ideas!  (Naturally I would think that!)

Nice to have you here.

And don't forget, gang, if you include a link to your own site in your signature in the forums or when you comment on a blog post, that adds page rank to your stuff, too!

An example of how quickly pages get added to google lies in a blog review of Brad Suck's I Don't Know What I'm Doing that I added to Xanga a few months ago. After 5 minutes I googled Brad Sucks and my Xanga entry was at the top. After this I posted a link on his website and proceded to google again. Within only a few minutes this single reply to a thread was already up. The right tags help with Page Rank, as does a good title for the entry itself. Perhaps we should be also thinking in terms of something more than Matt Selznick and Brave Men Run for search parameters.

Has someone made a Squidoo page for you yet, Matt? If not, we should gather some links for reviews and stuff, then I might take it upon myself to do it in the next week if there is enough to work with. Twenty good links should be good to begin with. We could have one for the book and one for you the author. If you aren't on Wikipedia yet then it might be worthwhile setting up an entry.

If anybody else has some ideas for improving PageRank then feel free to chime in.

Squidoo doesn't have the best reputation out there (plenty of affiliate spam) and Google doesn't treat their links very well… not that I wouldn't appreciate being mentioned everywhere possible on the net, I'm just saying…

I do have a Wikipedia page that could always use some love.  Remember that Wikipedia wants a neutral point of view as well as citations for facts — if edits are made that aren't Wikipedia friendly, it could do more harm than good to the page.  The best approach is to mimic the layout of other author biographies on the site.

Mahalo.com is another source — I work there, so I'm ethically barred from creating a page about myself.  Anyone else can sign up and create a “User Created Stub,” though, and if enough links are added it will become a full-fledge search results page.

Also, feel free to use the link-sharing social sites like Digg — at the bottom of every one of my blog posts is the “Share This” button to make that easy.

Finally, if you mention me in a blog, have pictures of me in Flickr, or whatever, remember to always tag the item or post with my full name (Matthew Wayne Selznick) and variations (Matt Selznick, Matt Wayne Selznick, MW Selznick, and so on.)

Have to admit, it's a little strange advising folks on how best to promote me… but I'm trying to utilize you all as fans more and more.  You're a resource I've never really accessed before… so thanks!

My knowledge of link-sharing is limited so I am still learning as I go. :D I only just heard of Squidoo so I don't know much about its reputation. If you don't think that it will be useful, then I will leave it be. :)

I am adding something to wiki right now, specificially to do with your music, as this is something not covered yet. If you have any websites for bands that you used to play with, then this will make things quicker. If not, then I will think of something. Feel free to give me some feedback on my wiki edits via PM when you get a chance.

There's some information about my musical history on the Biography page, as well as in the annotations on individual songs in the Music section of the site.  I haven't written a full blown retrospective of that part of my life in some time; maybe after July 13..?

I have written some revisions based on the info, but it is nothing to write home about. I will do some more blogging and wiki revisions when I get some well-needed sleep.

I just joined booktagger and searched for BMR. It is good to see that it is showing up on the database. If there are any other obscure book community websites feel free to post a link.
