The Writing Discussion forum in the Writers Workshop is, like most of the forums here, open for anyone to read and for registered users to post and reply to posts. I hope everyone interested in the writing and writers will participate and help the community grow!

The Critique Group is only available to registered users… it's a little more exclusive (but not much, since registration is painless and free.) I've got a couple of reasons for putting a little barrier up in that forum:

  1. Folks will post their writing here, often in first draft or an otherwise unpolished form. I'm erring on the side of consideration — it's my hunch that people might feel a little shaky about exposing said writing to the general public.
  2. The forum is there for people to invite constructive criticism of their writing, and provide same. That requires some trust, and mutual vulnerability. I assume keeping it semi-private will make that a little easier.

I could be completely off-base in those two assumptions — I'll leave it to the communty to decide what the community will be. Meanwhile, take part, enjoy, and write!
