One Of The First
I launched my first podcast, The MWS Media Radio Show Podcast (what a mouthful!) on October 15, 2004. Since that time, I’ve produced four different podcasts and appeared as a guest or reader on many others. I’ve also worked as a consultant helping small companies create their own podcasts, spoken at conferences and conventions about podcasting and new media, and been quoted in books and elsewhere.

The MWS Media Radio Show Podcast / DIY Endeavors
From October 15, 2004 to June 3, 2007, over the course of sixty five episodes, I was honored to present close to a hundred and fifty DIY, independent artists from all over the world. Originally titled The MWS Media Radio Show Podcast, that was just too much of a mouthful, too ego-centric, and not entirely representative, so I changed the name to simply DIY Endeavors. The show even briefly spawned a streaming Internet radio station… but frankly, that was a pain in the ass..!
Five Minute Memoir
I carried the idea for this podcast longer than the show actually lasted. The idea was that people would call in and share a formative memory, confession, or just really good story from their past, so long as they could tell the whole thing in five minutes or so. I did seven episodes from December 2006 through May 2007, but I just didn’t have the time to promote it or recruit new Five Minute Memoirs to continue.
Writers Talking
“A live roundtable podcast featuring independent and small-press fiction authors talking shop and answering your questions.” This show was an experiment utilizing TalkShoe, the podcast / phone recording hybrid service that allowed a user to create, essentially, a call-in show that would become a podcast after the fact. I did eighteen episodes, each focused more on craft than on promoting a particular writer’s work. Each show had a similar format: half hour of discussion, then fifteen minutes or so of live conversation with the listening audience. While popular, the show was a lot of work to plan and produce, and TalkShoe’s constantly shifting business model and user interface made consistency a challenge.
Sonitotum
A sloppy play on the word “factotum,” this show is an extension of my blog, which has a title that is another carefree interpretation of Latin, Scribtotum. Sonitotum began as, essentially, a grab-bag… sometimes music, sometimes talk, sometimes a little of both. After the first ten episodes and my hiatus from podcasting of several months, it returns as a place to put all my podcasting. Every episode will have some music (like DIY Endeavors.) Some episodes might have a Five Minute Memoir. Now and then, you’ll hear some Writers Talking. Every episode will feature some thought, observation, rant, or essay from me, and an opportunity for listeners to give their feedback.
