Major-label, popularity contest, second-hand bastard gutter child of American Idol on a network owned by futher mucking Viacom that it is…
OMFG, TTTT, I love Rock Star: Supernova.
The concept is: aspiring singers from all over the world compete through a series of auditions and eliminations to land the frontperson gig for Supernova, a retro / glam band formed by former members of Guns & Roses, Motley Crue, and Metallica. The show is hosted by the beautiful-despite-augmentation Brooke Burke and the wise-likeable-and-gentle-despite-still-wearing-guyliner-in-the-21st-century Dave Navarro.
You probably know the drill — every week, the kids get up and sing for Supernova, and every week, crazy text-messaging fanatics vote for their favorite performance. The band then chooses which one to axe out of the three least popular folks. At the end of the summer, the last person standing gets the gig, and a record and world tour and all that happy stuff commences. It’s pretty standard reality-contest fare, produced by the creator of the grandaddy of them all, “Survivor.”
Thing is, the guys in Supernova have revealed themselves to be intelligent, gracious, warm, and endearingly sincere. You wouldn’t mind having them over for a dinner party, so long as you all got to jam in the garage after everyone’s parents went home. Except I know my mom would want to hang around for that.
See, I think it appeals to me because I’ve sung (or tried to sing!) the great majority of the songs the kids are auditioning with, so I know just how challenging some of the material is. I feel for them. And, sure, I’m betting a part of it is a kind of vicarious nostalgia, since I haven’t played much (at all) for some time now.
It’s good fun, and I’m committed… I wanna see how this all turns out.
Look, “The West Wing” is off the air. This is what happens.
That’s just how it is.
…
I also bite my nails.

Scribtotum
I miss West Wing too. sniff
New Bradley Whitford / Aaron Sorkin series this fall!
This is the second season for the “rock star” show. I watched the first and I’m watching this one. I do switch between channels during the show though.
I was going to tell you about the new Aaron Sorkin series this fall. I can hardly wait.
You can view the reruns of “West Wing” in syndication but it was such a wonderful show that I remember everything and can almost say the lines with the characters. LOL!
psb: Yeah, I saw the first one with INXS, but I just don’t think those guys were as appealing (or the contestants, for that matter) as this time around.
I’ve been waiting for the Studio 60 since the last episode of WW… they showed a nice long preview then, if I remember right.
Haven’t seen WW in syndication since I scaled back on my satellite plan and lost the Bravo! channel, but I do have the first three season on DVD!
