Based on spiritual smugness? I don’t know what that means — maybe you could elaborate when you swing around here again in another couple of years.

Filtered through sour grapes of inadequate technical vision limited to coveting the success of a proven leader of functional cuddle tech? You seem to feel my joke regarding Apple’s overzealous (and failed) attempt to use trademark law is inspired by my having bitter feelings regarding my own alleged lack of technical vision. But what does my lack (or lack of a lack!) of vision have to do with Apple’s attempt to trademark things they have no right to trademark? I don’t get it.

“Coveting the success of a proven leader…” I don’t covet his success. I’ve got my own successes and ambitions, and they don’t require or depend upon Steve Jobs being successful or not. Frankly, Jobs doesn’t ping on my radar unless his company does something stupid — which happens now and then, like many companies. See my public attack on Verizon — does it mean I coven their CEO’s success? Hardly.

“Fuctional cuddle tech.” I guess you’re being cute here, which is all well and good. As a past and present user of Macs running OSX and PCs running Windows and various flavors of Linux, I can tell you they’re all flawed in different ways. None of them are particularly good for cuddling.

In any event, I appreciate that my post continues to inspire you to comment, Mister Lloyd. It shows that I’m doing something right.

First of all — I’m not sure who Mister Lloyd refers to in the first paragraph of his comment, but I’m not interested in saving anything I don’t think exists in the first place… and so the rest doesn’t apply.

Secondly, regarding Mister Lloyd’s second paragraph — When Apple tries to trademark the word “pod” and goes after anyone who uses the word in relation to podcasting, I’d say being publicly critical of their practices is absolutely necessary and very relevant.

Third, if you refer to the Yahoo! Podcaster Group mailing list, where a couple thousand podcasters are members, I think you’ll find that negative reaction to Apple on this issue is pretty widespread and very passionate.

Finally, regarding what was or was not said by mythological figures… the tongue-in-cheek fake marquee in my post has just as much validity as any other alleged quotes.

Apple bashing was an old and tired pursuit in the late 80s and, at best, is whiny sour grapes.

If you ever claim this to be even a commonly occuring opinion among podcasters you are breaking one of the BIG TEN.
