Escape Pod Features Matthew Wayne Selznick Story
Escape Pod, the podcast science fiction magazine, presents “Reggie vs. Kaiju Storm Chimera Wolf,” a new short story by Matthew Wayne Selznick read by Amazon.com-bestselling author and podcaster Scott Sigler.
Reggie and Ben arrived in Dana Cove six hours after the kaiju storm had come and gone.
This was actually pretty good time. There was rarely any advance warning of a manifestation, but fortunately seismic sensors planted offshore triggered storm sirens as soon as the beast roughly slouched onto the continental shelf. Most folks in the projected path had time to jolt out of bed and head elsewhere…

I am checking it out right now. You don’t know how long that I have been waiting for this story, Matt. :D
Hey Matt,
I really enjoyed the story. Besides the obvious influence of Japanese monster movies, I was reminded of Forbidden Planet. Did that influence you at all?
Is it weird that I’m starting to find Scott’s woman’s voice sexy? OK, not really.
Glad to hear you enjoyed “Reggie…,” Icepick. To my shame, I have never seen Forbidden Planet! (I only recently, in the last year or so, finally saw The Day The Earth Stood Still.)
Some folks in the Escape Pod forums made the comparison as well… it’s a common thread in daikaiju films, too — the twins and their connection to Mothra, Gamera’s link with children, Godzilla’s own telepathic connection with various people over the decades. In my Daikaiju Universe setting, the connection will be shown to be a little more complex.
Thanks for the kind words! As for your affection for Scott’s (alleged?) woman-voice… that’s your own issue, buddy. ;-)
