Sonitotum with Matthew Wayne Selznick

083: In Conversation with Children’s Author Jeffery E. Doherty

This time on Sonitotum with Matthew Wayne Selznick: A conversation with the award-nominated Australian author of children’s fantasy books and stories, Jeffery E. Doherty  (also find him on Amazon, Facebook, and Twitter!).

Jeffery E. Doherty is also an illustrator, speaker, book reviewer, and book cover designer. His books include Paper Magic and his darkly humorous upper middle grade fantasy series The Guardians of St. Giles.

Jeffery has created over a dozen book covers for IFWG Publishing and five covers for SQ Mag, including the May, 2014 edition, which won the Australian Shadow Award.

Jeffery has worked as a nurse, a police officer, a learning support officer, and a librarian. He brings his experience from all those careers into his writing and art.

Join us as we explore the cathartic power of creating and writing, the responsibility and privilege of writing for special needs children, legacy, seeking out challenges and growth as an author… and more!

This episode was recorded on May 9th, 2023. The conversation with Jeffery Doherty was recorded on January 27th, 2023.

The Music!

The opening theme song of Sonitotum is “Anastasia” written, performed, and recorded by yours truly, Matthew Wayne Selznick.

The closing and interstitial music is a little ditty I call “Gwinton,” also by yours truly, Matthew Wayne Selznick. It’s super-short and really just a looping thing.

On both songs, I play a 1972 Gibson Ripper bass guitar and a Fender “Bullet” Squire electric guitar. On “Anastasia,” the drums are performed on an Akai Professional MPD218 MIDI drum pad controller. For “Gwinton,” the drums are royalty-free loops found in the excellent Mixcraft Pro Studio software, which was also used to record, mix, and master both “Anastasia” and “Gwinton.”
